In Bolivia, 38% of female prisoners are incarcerated for drug related crimes, whereas in the U.S. this figure is 29%. However, while women make up only 7.9% of the total incarcerated population in Bolivia at 1,157, women make up 13% of the total U.S. prison population at nearly 110,000.
