A panel event at the Organization of American States (OAS) hosted by the Permanent Missions to the OAS of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Republic of Argentina and the United States of Mexico.
Panelists:
- Jake Johnston, Center for Economic and Policy Research, Co-author of “Observing the Observers: the OAS in the 2019 Bolivian Elections”
- Francisco Rodríguez, Council on Foreign Relations, Co-author of “Do Shifts In Late-Counted Votes Signal Fraud? Evidence from Bolivia”
- Jack Williams, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Co-author of “Analysis of the 2019 Bolivian Election”
Moderated by Kathryn Ledebur, Andean Information Network
The three panelists – Johnston, Rodríguez and Williams – shared their analysis of what took place during the October 2019 vote count process and assessed OAS claims that, in the words of the New York Times, “heightened doubts about the fairness of the vote and fueled a chain of events that changed the South American nation’s history.”
Francisco Guerrero, OAS Secretary for the Strengthening of Democracy, and Gerardo De Icaza, OAS Director of the Department of Electoral Observation and Cooperation, turned down an invitation to also speak in this event.
